PURPOSE:To eliminate the need for cooling and worker's operation and to carry out the hot charge of a slab by setting the transfer speed corresponding to the depth of the scarfing to scarf a necessary part in the slab 1. CONSTITUTION:In the case of scarfing at the depth t1 from an end of the slab 1 to its position of x1, the speed v1 corresponding to the depth t1 is set and the slab 1 is transferred by x1 and scarfed. Afterward, the scarfing is not carried out. When the scarfing is stopped in the way as this case, the scarfing slag accumulates on the slab at that position, so it is set so that gas to such an extent to carry away said slag is allowed to flow. By this method, after cooling, the need for the cooling and the worker's operation is eliminated to carry out the hot charge with the same scarfing loss as that at the time of scarfing a part concerned by a worker.
