PURPOSE:To obtain chromia.alumina refractories having high purity and low porosity at a low price, by charging chromium oxide powder and Al powder into an oven, melting the chromium oxide by aluminothermy, separating the chromium oxide from a metal chromium precipitated on the oven bottom in order to provide the chromia alumina melt. CONSTITUTION:An chromium oxide powder and aluminum powder are blended and charged into the reaction oven 1 as a raw material 4. Then a ignition agent 5 is put on the raw material 4 and ignited by a torch 6 and Al powder is fired to carry out aluminothermy reaction. Then the chromium oxide powder is melted by the reaction heat and part of the chromium oxide is reacted with Al to afford a metal chromium melt 7 and chromia alumina melt 8 and the metal chromium melt 7 is precipitated on the oven bottom by the difference of specific weight. Then melts 7 and 8 are solidified by gradually cooling and ingot of the chromia alumina is taken out to provide the aimed chromia.alumina refractories. |
