PURPOSE:To obtain a high-purity and dense electromelting chromia.alumina at a low price, by using oven body and electrode structures having specifically controlled interval between the electrode and oven wall and interval between mutual electrodes, applying electricity to the electrodes and subjecting the raw material to melt synthesis. CONSTITUTION:Three electrode 2 are arranged in an electric oven 1 and simultaneously the structure of oven body and the electrodes is set so that interval between the electrodes 2 and oven wall 3 is 2-2.5D (D is diameter of the electrode) and interval between mutual electrodes 2 is 1.5-2D. Then the raw material powder of chromia.alumina is inserted into the electric oven 1 and electricity is applied to the electrode 2 and the raw material is subjected to melt synthesis to provide the aimed electromelting chromia.alumina. According to the above-mentioned method, the raw material remains without melting near the oven wall 3 and a lining 4 having as same composition as that of the melt is formed and corrosion 3 of the oven wall is avoided even when inexpensive oven wall such as alumina brick is used, because the oven body is constituted more largely than a conventional electric oven. |
