PURPOSE:To effectively compensate a dropout, by detecting the basic cycle of signals immediately before or after the dropout takes place and replacing the dropout part with the signals before or after the dropout by an integral number of times of the basic cycle. CONSTITUTION:Reproduced audio signals are amplified by a preamplifier 12 and impressed upon an FM demodulator 14. Then the audio signals are converted into digital signals by an A/D converter 16 and stored in a memory 18. An autocorrelation detecting circuit 28 detects the basic cycle of the data accumulated in the memory 18 from the data. On the other hand, when a dropout detecting circuit 26 detects a dropout from the output of the preamplifier 12 and outputs a detect signal, a memory controlling circuit 30 replaces the dropout with preceding signals by an integral number of times of the basic cycle detected by the autocorrelation detecting circuit 28 for a period a little longer than the dropout period, and thus, the dropout is effectively compensated.
