PURPOSE:To realize the effective retrieval of picture information by using a 1st input means which reads the picture information, a 2nd input means which reads the retrieval information out of a plane-shaped storage medium that can set the retrieval information in accordance with a surface position, and a storage means which stores the read-out retrieval information together with the corresponding picture information. CONSTITUTION:When the picture signals are inputted from a picture device connected to an input/output interface 11, for example, these picture signals are outputted to a monitor 13 under the control of a controller 12. Then the pictures are projected. When these pictures are recorded for preservation, the information on the retrieving items to be recorded simultaneously are designated by a marking pen 23 on a white card 22 put on a plastic card 21. The cad 22 is put into a card reader interface 16 and read. Then the read-out contents of the card 22 are inputted to a memory 15 together with the picture signals under the control of the controller 12. In such a way, the retrieval data can be obtained in an extremely easy way.
