PURPOSE:To efficiently produce a lipid containing >=30% gamma-linolenic acid, by cultivating a fungus belonging to the genus Mucor. CONSTITUTION:A fungus such as Mucor circinelloides HUT1121 (FERM P-9359) or Mucor javanicus HUT1162 (FERM P-9360) belonging to the genus Mucor, capable of producing a lipid containing gamma-linolenic acid, is inoculated into a medium containing a carbon source such as glucose preferably at 50-250g/l initial concentration, cultivated, preferably by additionally adding the carbon source to the medium during the culture and the lipid containing gamma-linolenic acid is collected from the culture cell. |
