PURPOSE:To detect a fine color difference by diffracting reflected light from a body to be inspected spectrally through a prism, and converting the generated spectrum into an electric signal by a line sensor and storing it in a spectrum memory. CONSTITUTION:The reflected light from the body 1 to be measured is diffracted spectrally and converted by the line sensor 23 into an electric signal, which is stored in the spectrum memory 24 through a preamplifier 4 and an A/D converter 5. The spectrum memory 25, on the other hand, is stored with spectrum data on a reference color. A comparator 26 compares the spectrum data on the body 1 to be measured which is stored in the memory 24 with the spectrum data on the reference color which is stored in the memory 25 and outputs a defect signal to a decision output terminal 12 when both has a substantial difference. Thus, the fine color difference is detected.
