PURPOSE:To remarkably improve the absorbing and holding power of a liquid- absorbing and holding material and to reduce the thickness of the material, by attaching an absorbing polymer layer under a thermoplastic resin layer and forming a number of through-holes piercing through the above two layers. CONSTITUTION:A tray 12 is lined with a liquid-absorbing and holding material 1, a perishable food 13 such as fish, shellfish or cattle meat is placed on the material and the assembly is packaged with a synthetic resin film 14. Liquid such as drip exuded from the perishable food 13 is passed through the through- holes 4, quickly transferred downward and absorbed in the absorbing polymer layer 3 which has high absorbing and holding power and is placed under the thermoplastic resin layer 2.
