PURPOSE:To improve the quality and yield of a product in the case of use for rolling work by obtaining the difference by measuring each strain of a shaft body at the temperature in use and at the working temperature and obtaining the difference and carrying out working so that the strain difference is provided so that the strain becomes zero under the temperature in use. CONSTITUTION:A shaft body 1 is set under the temperature in use, and the strain for a supposed true circle at the necessary position in the longitudinal direction is measured at each position in the peripheral direction, and then measured at the same position under the normal temperature, and the difference is obtained. One edge of the shaft body 1 is supported by the chuck 6 of a rotary device 5, and the other edge is supported by a rotary center 7, and grinding is performed under the normal temperature by a grinder 11 which shifts on a guide 10 arranged in parallel to the rotary shaft and is approached and separated in the radias direction by receiving the signal supplied from a controller 9, detecting the revolution surface by a phase detector 8. Therefore, when the shaft body 1 is set under the temperature in use, the shape of the section becomes true circular form, and also the degree of cylinder is improved, and the vibration during revolution is suppressed, and the yield and quality of the product as calender roll can be improved.
