PURPOSE:To improve the controllability of a process plant controller by setting automatically a control parameter like the control gain related to the process control in response to the actual process plant dynamic characteristics. CONSTITUTION:A boiler controller contains a control system which controls the steam temperature, etc., based on a generating value command signal 1 and serves as a main control system. The signal 1 is supplied to a function generator 27 and converted into a basis fuel amount command signal 3. Then a deviation signal 8 is outputted to a control computing element 9 via an adder 4 and a subtractor 6. The output of the element 9 is applied to a fuel amount control valve 12 via an automatic/manual switch 10. At the same time, the deviation 24 of a main steam temperature signal 20 is supplied to the adder 4 so that the signal is corrected via a set value control computing element 25. In this case, an automatic control parameter setting device 100 is used to change the contents of function generators 27 and 28 which set the control parameter of the element 25. A switch holder 120 is also added. In such a constitution, the labor and time can be reduced for control of the parameter.
