PURPOSE:To obtain a water-insoluble agent for prolonging life of cut flowers, having approximately doubled life prolonging effects, increasing color and brightness of flower, by subjecting a mixed aqueous solution containing sodium alginate, etc., to ion exchange with a specific aqueous solution and capsulating. CONSTITUTION:A mixed aqueous solution of sodium alginate, aluminum sulfate and sodium thiosulfate is taken out by Komagome type pipette, dripped to an aqueous solution of CaCl2 to form about 50mmphi capsules, which are impregnated with the solution for about 30min as they are and separated from the solution to give an agent for prolonging the life of cut flowers, having excellent handleability. The agent may be added to a vase containing water and cut flowers such as roses, etc. The capsule wherein sodium alginate is subjected to ion exchange with a bivalent cation is slightly soluble in water, the capsule maintains a capsule shape in water, ions of the supported agent is eluted in water by osmotic pressure, multiplication of bacteria and molds occurring on the cut of cut flowers or a conduit is suppressed, water is well raised and thiosulfate and sulfate ions make color of the flowers clear.
