PURPOSE:To keep a battery always under complete charged condition, by monitoring the specific gravity of electrolytic solution of a battery at all times and by automatically switching the operation of a rectifier from floating operation over to uniform operation when the specific gravity of electrolytic solution gets reduced. CONSTITUTION:A specific gravity detector DET actuates a relay T when the specific gravity of electrolytic solution becomes reduced lower than a certain preset value. If the relay T actuates, a rectifier FC in floating operation will be switched over to uniform charging operation. The rectifier FC is switched from floating operation to uniform operation under the control of a control device CONT, with which DC power is applied to a load L uniformly charging a battery BAT. After that, the specific gravity detector DET reads the recovery of the specific gravity of battery electrolytic solution with a electrolytic solution specific gravity sensor HS to release the relay T which has so far actuated. The control device CONT thereby gets back the operation of the rectifier FC from uniform operation to floating operation, i.e. to normal operation.
