PURPOSE:To prevent a step from being generated in an ink ribbon relative to a take-up reel and suppress defective feeding of the ribbon, by providing ink ribbon payout and take-up reels with a surface-correcting means. CONSTITUTION:With a ribbon take-up knob 7 driven to rotate, a pin 15 biting into an ink ribbon wound on a take-up reel 14 is rotated. By a rotating force of the pin 15, the reel 14 is forcibly rotated to sequentially take up a used part of the ink ribbon, and a fresh part of the ribbon is paid out from a pancake 10 by a corresponding amount. In this case, the upper surface of the pancake 10 makes contact with lower parts of rotatable elements 6, which are rotated concurrently with the rotation of the pancake 10 to correct a step, if any, present in the ribbon. A conductive detent plate 12 making contact with an upper surface of the take-up reel 14 is provided with a groove 13 along a moving path B of the reel 14. The groove 13 presses downward an ink ribbon layer being wound around the reel 14, so that no step is generated in the ink ribbon layer.
