PURPOSE:To manufacture a composite membrane efficiently by subjecting a supporting membrane to containing multinuclear metal complex composed of complex cation containing a transition metal element and of a complex anion. CONSTITUTION:Anionic or cationic polyelectrolyte membrane or neutral membrane is used as a supporting membrane. This supporting membrane is impregnated with a solution containing complex cation. The solution solvent dissolves constituent ions but does not dissolve the membrane. Then, the supporting membrane is successively impregnated with solutions containing complex cation and anion which has high diffusion rate in a supporting membrane to form a multinuclear metal complex into a multilayer one by forming both components into a complex. Therefore, efficient deposition of multilayer metal complex is carried out in a simple manner.
