PURPOSE:To enable the high-selectivity and yield production of the title compound which is used as a synthetic intermediate of antierosive, anticorrosive and medicines by reaction of a catechol with a thiohalide in the presence of a trivalent phosphorus. CONSTITUTION:The subject compound of formula II is obtained by reaction of a catechol of formula I (R1 is substituent; n is 0-2) with a compound of the formula: X-S-R2 (X is halogen, imide; R2 is aliphatic, aromatic or heterocyclic) in the presence of a trivalent phosphorus of the formula: PY3 (Y is aliphatic or aromatic) in an aprotic solvent such as tetrahydrofuran at 0-100 deg.C, preferably at 20-80 deg.C for 1-3hr. The amount of the trivalent phosphorus used is 0.7-10, preferably 1.0-6.0mol. per mole of the compound of formula I. The trivalent phosphorus is, e.g., tri-(n)-butylphosphine, triphenylphosphine or such. |
