PURPOSE:To clearly discriminate the characters and symbols displayed on key tops by applying illumination to the characters and symbols corresponding to the relevant modes selected on each key top. CONSTITUTION:Four character/symbols are allocated to a single key top 2 and corresponds to four different modes. Then the surface of the top 2 is divided into four sections 5 showing a print range equivalent to a single character. Each section 5 serves as a square window-shaped illumination light transmitting part 4 and the terminal parts of an optical fiber 6 are connected to the four corners of each section 5 where the characters/symbols are displayed at each corresponding position. The fibers 6 set in each section 5 are connected to the corresponding light sources 7a-7d respectively. These sources 7 are provided by the number corresponding to the number of types of modes and selected by means of a mode changeover key 8 through a switch changeover part for illumination of only those characters/symbols corresponding to each mode.
