PURPOSE:To prevent an outboard engine from being damaged, by designing the method of connection between an oil tank, which is placed always in a pressurized condition, and a cylinder in a tilt device so as to enable it to hold the outboard engine in the upper position when it collides against an obstacle being turned to the upper in a condition that a ship sails on a shoal. CONSTITUTION:In the case of a tilt device 8 provided between a clamping bracket fixed to the rear part of a boat and a rotatable swivel bracket 5, an oil tank 12, which permits a change of amount of oil in a cylinder 10 generated by the longitudinal movement of its piston rod 9, is provided. This oil tank 12 pressurizes its internal part with pressurizing gas through a free piston 15. And the tilt device 8, which connects the oil tank 12 to communicate with the first and second chambers C1, C2 in the cylinder 10 through each oil passage T1, T2 while both the chambers C1, C2 to communicate through an oil passage T3, provides check valves V1-V3 in each oil passage T1-T3 enabling each check valve V1, V2 to be opened by control levers R1, R2. |
