PURPOSE:To improve both a hit rate and efficiency in a control system for disk cache memory by deciding previously the desired number of blocks for each data to be read out and staging the data in the number of pieces equal to said number of blocks. CONSTITUTION:It is checked whether the data necessary for a main memory 3 is stored or not in a cache memory 7 via a disk cache controller 4. If so, the data is sent to the memory 3 from the memory 7. If not, the controller 4 stages a necessary data block from a disk device 6 via a disk controller 5. In this case, the number of blocks to be staged for each data are stored in a block number instruction means 8 in the memory 3 and then instructed to the controller 4 via an execution instructing means 9 in a control memory 2.
