PURPOSE:To easily produce documents with high efficiency by setting a base line which prescribes a document layout to store input character data in accordance with the data on said base line and controlling the display position of said character data. CONSTITUTION:A controller 4 contains various information processing parts including an initializing part 4a, an input part 4c, a control instruction processing part 4d, a base line producing part 4e, a base line display part 4f, a base line data correcting part 4g, a character string data input part 4h and an input data display part 4i, and various data buffers including an input data buffer 4j, a character data buffer 4k, a base line data buffer 4m, a character pattern storing part 4n and a display data buffer 4p. Then the controller 4 sets a base line which prescribes a document layout and stores input character data in response to the data on the base line to control the display position of said character data.
