PURPOSE:To decrease retrieving mistakes and to effectively select candidate images by displaying a list of index images in addition to the retrievals of image data and keywords. CONSTITUTION:An image memory 5 contains an index image memory area 8, a normalized coefficient memory area 9 and a coding data memory area 10. Then the candidate images of the image data are selected in the form of the retrieval of keywords, for example, when the image data is retrieved. Under such conditions, plural sheets of primary candidate images are read out of the area 8 and displayed in a list on an image display device 7. Then the coding data corresponding to the secondary candidate images is read out of a coding data memory area 10 and an output vector is read out of an output vector code table 11. Then the restored image data of the secondary candidate images is displayed on the device 7. Thus a desired image is finally selected. |
