PURPOSE:To separate Se from As by mixing specified amts. of copper- electrolysis anode slime and sulfuric acid into the scraps contg. Se and As, applying sulfatizing roasting, mixing the roasted material with water, and agitating the mixture to selectively dissolve As. CONSTITUTION:One pts.wt. scraps contg. Se and As such as the scraps of a photosensitive body of a copying machine are mixed with >=1.5pts.wt. copper- electrolysis anode slime generated in the electrolytic refining of copper with crude copper, etc., as the anode. More than the equivalent weight of sulfuric acid, based on the total weight of the copper, nickel, arsenic and selenium contained in the obtained mixture, is then added to the mixture, a sulfatizing roasting is applied at <=300 deg.C. The obtained roasted material is mixed with water, the mixture is agitated to selectively dissolve As, and the As and Se are separated and recovered. The recovered As and Se are reused in the production of the photosensitive body of a copying machine, etc.
