PURPOSE:To prevent erosion of a tuyere and to stabilize refining operation by enclosing circumference of a gas injecting pipe in the tuyere in a molten metal refining furnace for injecting oxygen or the other gas into the molten metal with permeable refractory for flowing through cooling gas. CONSTITUTION:At furnace bottom refractory 1 in the refining furnace for molten metal 11, a hole 2 widening outward is formed. The permeable refractory 3 having conical shape matching to this hole 2, is inserted and oxygen gas introducing pipe 5 is arranged at the center part, and the cooling gas introducing pipe 7 is arranged at the outside thereof. Gas storing space 8 is arranged at the bottom part thereof so that the cooling gas is uniformly passed through in the refractory 3, and gas box 9 is arranged at circumference thereof, to prevent leakage of the cooling gas to out of the furnace. The cooling gas is injected into the molten metal 11 and as it is uniformly injected from whole face of the permeable refractory 3 around the oxygen introducing pipe 5, the mushroom is developed and stuck to the circumference of the tuyere, and the unstable operation caused by erosion of the refractory or clogging of the tuyere is prevented.
