PURPOSE:To reduce a size and increase an accuracy by making a light incident portion and/or a light receiving portion a semi-reflecting layer, providing a reaction layer outside a detecting layer, generating a complex index of refraction in a material to be detected in a detecting layer and lengthening a light transmitting path. CONSTITUTION:A light incident portion 7 and a light receiving portion 7 having reflecting layers 6 are mounted to the side surface of a light transmitting medium 1 of plate-shaped body having a flat surface or a gentle curved surface. A reaction layer 3 containing an enzyme for selectively reacting on a specific material is formed on one surface of the medium 1. A detecting layer 2 is sandwiched between the medium 1 and the layer 3. When the detecting layer 2 is brought into contact with a gas to be measured or a specific gas generated by the enzyme in the layer 3, the layer 2 selectively reacts on the gas and detects change in a light transmitting capability. Light incident from the light incident portion 7 is repeatedly reflected by the layers 6 and emitted from the light receiving portion 8 to lengthen a light transmitting path. Accordingly, a sensor can be made a small size and highly sensitive. |
