PURPOSE:To improve character processing efficiency by executing the prescribed block processing of document information in a block consisting of retrieved block constituting elements based on block processing information. CONSTITUTION:A document information processing means for executing the prescribed block processing of document information in the block consisting of block constitutional elements retrieved by a block information retrieving means based on the block processing information is provided. The block information retrieving means retrieves the block constituting elements successively and alternately in a row or column direction from the document information stored in a document memory based on the inputted prescribed block processing information and the document information processing means executes the prescribed block processing of the document information in the block consisting of the block constitutional elements retrieved by the block information retrieving means based on the block processing information. Consequently, complex key operation can be eliminated.
