PURPOSE:To industrially, advantageously and efficiently obtain gaseous compd. contg. H2 gas by heating a gas mainly consisting of CH4 and steam at the heated boundary material separating an adjacent combustion room and passing through porous catalyst layer. CONSTITUTION:City gas is burnt with air using a burner 6 in the zone 2 to be heated and the combustion gas is passed down through pores in the porous heat radiator 4. At that time, its sensible heat is transferred to the radiator 4, its temp. is steeply lowered and then, the combustion gas is exhausted from the lower part. In this case, radiation of heat occurs upwards, that is, to the boundary material 3 impermeable to gas, and heat it. The raw material gases, CH4 and steam, flow down between a bell jar and a cylinder of circular part, turn at the material 3 and pass upwards through pores in the porous heat accep tor 5 carrying a catalyst. In that place, the raw material gases are exposed to high temp. in the presence of the catalyst, reacted to produce H2 and CO, and the produced gaseous mixture contg. H2 is taken out from the upper part.
