PURPOSE:To obtain conversion between capitals and small letters or the conversion of accentuated characters by identifying whether a character to be converted is an accentuated character or not at the time of instructing the conversion of a character on a specified position. CONSTITUTION:When a position on which a character is to be converted from a small letter into a capital or from a capital to a small letter out of characters in an once inputted character string is specified by a character converting position specifying means A and the conversion is instructed by a conversion instructing means B. Consequently, a character code on the specified position is converted into a prescribed character format by a character code converting means C. AT the time of conversion, whether the character to be converted is an accentuated character or not is identified by an accentuated characer discriminating meamns D. Consequently, whether the converted character is to be accentuated or not or an accent for capitals or small letter is to be placed or not can be decided and a required conversion result can be obtained.
