PURPOSE:To enable a microscopic specimen with the same thickness to be always obtained without generating an irregularity in the feed quantity of the specimen by reducing a displacement generated by a minute feed mechanism by an integral notch type spring. CONSTITUTION:A fixed thin plate 8 is fixed to a base plate 2 reciprocally rotated by a rotating mechanism and a deformed thin plate 9 is located on the base 2. Highly viscous fats and oils or the like are filled between the base 2 and the thin plate 9. The thin plate 9 is mounted with a specimen 3 at one end. Minute feed mechanisms 4a and 4b give the thin plate 9 a displacement at the other end. The thin plates 8 and 9 constitute an integral notch type spring 1 that is a feed quantity reducing mechanism. Accordingly, since the spring 1 is used as the feed quantity reducing mechanism and the thermal expansion of a solid is not applied, neither irregularity is generated in the specimen 3 due to a thermal inertia nor the feed quantity of the specimen 3 changes due to an ambient temperature. Further, no long time is necessary before the initiation of cutting and moreover the specimen 3 can be easily held in a low temperature atmosphere.
