PURPOSE:To easily and inexpensively form the taping hole of a blast furnace which is dense, uniform, and closed by boring the hole of a specified form through the tapping hole of the blast furnace, inserting a temporary molded refractory, and then pressing the molded refractory. CONSTITUTION:The tapping hole 2 of the blast furnace having a columnar form, etc., is bored through the blast furnace tapping hole 1 by the wrecking knife edge 6 having a cylindrical form, etc., fixed to the rotary hammer drill 5 of a wrecking machine. The temporary molded refractory 3 having the form matching the hole 2 is inserted in the hole. The temporary molded refractory 3 is obtained by mixing a refractory aggregate, a binder for burning, and a plastic additive, molding the mixture, and then burning the molded product. The inserted temporary molded refractory 3 is pressed 4 through a pressing plate 9 having a protrusion 8 and fixed to the tip 7 of a mud gun. By this method, a uniform pressing force at about 30-50kg/cm<2> is exerted on the temporary molded refractory 3 in the depth direction of the hole and in th circumferential direction, and the tapping hole 1 is densely and uniformly closed with a high packing density.
