PURPOSE:To obtain a cutter, which can simultaneously cut a mixture of different materials by a method wherein a large number of blade chips, each of which is made of superhard material excluding diamond, are arranged on the surface of a turntable, and the rake faces of each blade chip is formed by an edge, which extends in the direction of the depth of cut, and wedge faces, which extend from the edge to its both sides in the sense of rotation backwards with angles of rake almost equal to each other so as to specify the tip angle made between the wedge faces. CONSTITUTION:A cutting edge part 3 is made of superhard alloy, the shape of which consists of rake faces forming an edge 4 extending in the direction of the axis of a blade chip 1. As a result, under the state that the blade chip 1 is mounted to a cutter main body, the edge 4 faces to the sense of rotation and at the same time extends in the direction of the depth of cut and further wedge faces 5 and 6, which tilt nearly evenly in the sense of rotation backwards, are formed in both sides of the edge 4. The tip angle theta made between the wedge faces 5 and 6 is set to be more than or equal to 100 deg. and less than or equal to 140 deg.. Tough material is cut by the raking action of cutting edge. hard and brittle material is cut by both the crushing action with the wedge form of the rake faces and the abrasing action in a flank.
