PURPOSE:To form an oil sump in a sliding part so as to prevent generation of any seizure or abrasion by performing a grit blast process after hardening a checkered pattern on the sliding part by laser when the sliding part of an engine and a machine tool or the like is manufactured. CONSTITUTION:Hardening of a checkered pattern (e.g. hardening depth a=3mm, non-hardening part length b=10mm, and hardening length c=10mm) is performed on the inner peripheral surface of a cylinder for an engine by means of laser. Laser hardening is carried out under the conditions that the laser output is about 600W, hardening speed is approximately 0.8m/min, and black lead as an absorbing coating agent is applied on an inner surface of the cylinder and laser irradiation is pulse irradiation for performing laser hardening. Following this, removal process is applied to non-hardened part by a grit blast process. The condition of the grit blast is set approximately that the particle diameter of blast material is about 0.36mm and the speed of the blast material is approximately 80m/sec and the blast process is so applied that the recessed amount on the non-hardened part becomes about 0.15-0.20mm. Furthermore, a honing process for an engine cylinder is carried out.
