PURPOSE:To always obtain the best power saving effect by providing lead wires with switching elements and anodes for disconnecting the switching elements by the action of the anodes provided on the opposing electrode coil ends. CONSTITUTION:The lead wires 12 and 12' for supplying electricity to both ends of an electrode coil 1 are provided with switching elements 10 and 10' respectively. When any voltage is impressed on a fluorescent lamp, a current flows to the electrode coil 1 through the lead wires 12, 12', the switching elements 10, 10' and electrode coil supporting wires 2, 3 for heating the electrode coil 1 to start discharge. Provided that the lead wire 12 is connected to the discharge current supply terminal of a stabilizer, the switch element 10' is disconnected by the heat or the current of the anode 11' to break the current for heating the electrode coil. The discharge current does not pass through the transformer for heating the electrode coil so as to save electric power by a portion of the electric power for heating the electrode coil.
