The invention comprises a condensation polymer of and R1(NCO)2 having a molecular weight in the range of 1,600 to one million, R representing a substituted or unsubstituted, branched or straight chain alkyl having from 1 to 18 carbon atoms, a substituted or unsubstituted cycloalkyl radical or substituted or unsubstituted aryl radical, n is 0 or 1, and R1 is a substituted or unsubstituted alkylene radical having from 2 to 10 carbon atoms or a substituted or unsubstituted arylene radical. It also is a process for preparing a polymer having the molecular grouping in which x is at least 3 and up to 4,000 (equivalent to a molecular weight in the range of 1,600 to one million) by condensing the appropriate primary phosphine and/or phosphine oxide and the appropriate diisocyanate. Catalysts for the reaction are triethylene diamine, trialkylamines, N-ethylmorpholine, 1,4-dimethylpiperazine, 1,2,4-trimethylpiperazine, and dibutyl tin dilaurate or diacetate. These are reacted variously with toluene-2,4-, m-phenylene, ethylene, tri-, tetra-, penta- or hexa- or deca-methylene, octadecylene, methylene-di-p-phenyl and biphenyl-4,41-diisocyanates.
