A rolling stand for rolling either with a two-high horizontal-roll set or with a roll set consisting of a horizontal pair of rolls and a vertical pair of rolls (universal roll set). The rolls of the vertical pair are each arranged by means of their chocks in displaceable frames which can be displaced relative to one another in the direction of the axes of the horizontal rolls 33 to change the spacing and fixed and are supported by a pair 1, 2 of roll housings of the rolling stand. Rolling-stock guide fittings (17, 22) are connected to this pair (1, 2) of roll housings in a manner which allows them to be released and fixed. A connecting plate 5 can be placed on and connected releasably to the outsides of the two pairs 1, 2 of roll housings (these outsides extending transversely to the rolling direction), this connecting plate having a passage opening 4 for the rolling stock and supporting the rolling-stock guide fittings (17, 22). <IMAGE>
