PURPOSE:To facilitate a recovery process for damaged sector information by retrieving other sector information in the same track in case of the former specified sector information being unable to be retrieved and judging it as sectional damage on the information. CONSTITUTION:When the write and read of information are to take place on a magnetic disk device 3, a specified track T is retrieved first and then a specified sector S on this track T is retrieved. When sector information S1 of the specified sector S cannot be found after a lapse of a given period of time, this sector information S1 is judged to be damaged, ad hence a decision is made as to whether or not the damage exists in a limited part only. Consequently, the sector information S1 of the specified sector S and other sector information S1 of the same track T are retrieved, and when this can be read out normally, then the damage is judged as sectional, so that rewrite of the sector S1 should be carried out. By this method, the information of that section can easily be recovered.
