A sensor to determine the oxygen content of gases, specially of the exhaust gases of i.e. engines, has a tubular solid electrolyte, coated with electrodes, inside a protective tube with a convex bottom and a port for the entrance of the gases in a boss at the apex. The gases leave through six holes in the periphery, assisted by inward bent deflector flaps. The oxygen sensor (10) has a solid electrolyte tube (11), e.g. stabilised zirconia, coated with electrodes with an internal resistance heater (16). The inside (15) is accessible to air. A protective tube end (18), e.g. made of non-rusting steel sheet, has at the convex bottom(21) a boss (22) with a hole (23) for the entrance of the gases. They leave through six outlets (25) in an oblique direction, guided by the inward deflection flaps (26). |
