Malignant, neoplastic cells are treated by inhibiting glucose transport into the cell by administering one or more compounds selected from phlorizin, phloretin, phlorizin glucoronide, 4-deoxyphloretin-2-D-glucose, and cytochalasin-B, preferably while concurrently administering adjunct therapy such as heat, radiation or chemotherapy. In this manner, the cells are prevented from growing or repairing the damage caused by the adjunct therapy, which can be administered in dosages that would otherwise be non-lethal if used alone.
|
