In the case of a flat cable plug connector (1), especially for use in test sets, it is frequently the case that neither the locking function nor the lifting-off function (which requires two-handed operation and is thus ergonomically unfavourable) of the locking levers (18), which are arranged in the pin strip (2), are utilised. The locking levers (18) are thus removed. Two plungers (23) are guided through the two mounting holes (12) which are arranged in the pin strip (2) at right angles to its base surface (14), which plungers (23) are guided straight through further guide holes (30) and, in a manner which is stiff in bending, through a bracket (28) at their rear ends (25), and are clamped in a mutually parallel position. In a quiescent position, which is produced in any event by helical springs (33), the bent front ends (24) of the plungers (23) come to rest in the recesses (22) which are provided for the locking levers (18). If an operating force (34) acts on the bracket (28), this force is transmitted via the plungers (23) to the socket strip (3). Said socket strip (3) is displaced parallel to itself, in the sense of lifting it off. Damage to the contact pins (9) by the socket strip (3) being positioned obliquely with respect to the pin strip (2) is reliably prevented. An alternative possibility for mounting, without using the mouting holes (12), is indicated. <IMAGE>
