PURPOSE:To shorten the access time of an optical pick-up by arranging a semiconductor position detecting element in parallel to the moving direction of the optical pick-up and detecting its moving position. CONSTITUTION:A semiconductor position detecting element 20 is provided which is arranged in parallel to the moving direction of an optical pick-up device, photodetects a reflecting light 12b to occur when a beam radiated from a laser light source 11 transmits a beam splitter 13 toward a disk 9 and outputs it corresponding to the photodetecting position. When the output of the semiconductor position detecting element and a reference position signal are compared by a first comparing means, a second moving means is driven, they are coincident, and then, the second moving means is stopped. By the action of the second moving means, an optical pick-up 10 is approximately accessed up to the desired track on the disk 9, further, the reference position signal and the signal read by a beam detector are compared with the second comparing means, and a first moving means is driven so that they can be coincident. Thus, the access time can be shortened.
