The invention relates to a diesel engine unit for trucks, with a diesel engine and an overrun sensing device, which in overrun conditions emits an overrun signal, which is used to shut off all cylinders in overrun conditions. As a result the engine no longer performs compression work, which leads to considerable fuel savings. The unit according to the invention differs from known engines with cylinder cut-off in that not just a few cylinders are shut off at low load in order to achieve improved charging of the remaining cylinders, but all cylinders in overrun conditions.
