After starting, internal combustion engines pass through a so-called >>warm-up phase<<, in which the desired operating values are not attained or only partially attained. The internal combustion engine as motor vehicle drive is moreover operated in a large load and speed range and in designing the cooling account is generally taken only of the extreme value (full load). The internal combustion engine is therefore over-cooled in the partial load range.
