PURPOSE:To obtain a novel polymer having alkoxysilyl group, easily crosslinkable with water and useful for the coating of wire, etc. by reacting a 4-substituted-silyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydrophthalic anhydride to both terminals of a polymer having hydroxyl groups at both terminals. CONSTITUTION:The objective polymer having alkoxysilyl groups and expressed by formula III can be produced by reacting (A) a polymer having hydroxyl groups at both terminals and expressed by formula I (R is a main chain composed of CH2 or CH2 and O wherein H may be substituted; the molecular weight is <=10,000) (e.g. polyethylene glycol) with (B) a 4-substituted-silyl-1,2,3,6- tetrahydrophthalic anhydride of formula II (X1-X3 are lower alkoxy or lower alkyl; X1-X3 are not lower alkyl at the same time).
