PURPOSE:To obtain the titled elastomer having high flexibility and transparency, by reacting caprolactam, dicarboxylic acids, polyoxytetramethylene glycol, etc., under heating and reacting the resultant polyamide having terminal hydroxyl group with a dicarboxylic acid. CONSTITUTION:(A) Caprolactam is made to react with (B) a dicarboxylic acid such as 4-20C aliphatic dicarboxylic acid and 8-20C aromatic dicarboxylic acid and (C) a glycol such as (modified) polyoxytetramethylene glycol and alpha,omega- dihydroxy-hydrocarbon having a number average molecular weight of 500-4,000 at 150-300 deg.C at a molar ratio of B:C of 1:2 while keeping the water content in the reaction system to 0.1-1.0wt.%. The unreacted components are removed from the reaction system to obtain a polyamide having the component C bonded to both terminals through ester bond. The objective elastomer is produced by adding (D) 4-40C aliphatic dicarboxylic acid, 8-20C aromatic dicarboxylic acid, their ester, etc., to the polyamide at a molar ratio (C/D) of 2:1 and reacting the components at 200-300 deg.C.
