The invention relates to a method and a device for controlling the drive motor (1) of a bell-ringing machine during ringing and/or ringing-up of the bell, as a function of its swing position. For this, the swing position of the bell is measured continuously during the ringing and/or ringing-up, the switching on and off of the drive motor (1) for each swing direction being done separately respectively at a predetermined angular position of the bell. These angular positions are respectively so determined and selected that the bell attains the respective planned swing angle or at least approaches it continuously in every swing direction. <IMAGE>
