PURPOSE:To facilitate the input of KANJI (Chinese characters) with the use of a standard electronic computer system by pushing the character keys to produce the internal KANJI codes out of the partial gatherings corresponding to said pushed keys. CONSTITUTION:In a KANJI input state the Japanese reading of the KANJI to be supplied is shown in a KANA (Japanese syllabary) or Roman character string. This character string is supplied with push of keys on a keyboard and a conversion key is pushed in the frequency equal to the order number of the relevant KANJI. A CPU monitors the key input by a program 1 for acquisition of three types of information, that is, the Japanese reading 2 of the input KANJI, the pushing frequency 3 of the conversion key, and the position 4 of the character key pushed first after the conversion key. Based on these acquired information, a KANJI dictionary 5 stored in a secondary memory or a main memory, etc., is retrieved to obtain such elements having coincidence among the Japanese reading, the order number and the character key position. Then the internal KANJI code recorded to said element is extracted and decided as the internal code of KANJI 6 desired by a user.
