<p>PURPOSE:To enable culture of cell in high density over a long period, by converting side-chain amino acid of gelatin to guanidyl group, supporting the modified gelatin on a surface of a polymeric substrate and using the supported gelatin as a medium for cell culture. CONSTITUTION:Commercially available gelatin is made to react with a guanidylation agent in the presence of a basic compound to obtain a guanidylated gelatin. The objective cell culture medium composed of a polymer base supporting the guanidylated gelatin is produced by immersing hollow fibers composed of a porous polymer base subjected to physical or chemical treatment by laser etc., or applying said solution to the surface of the polymer base and drying the solution. The supported guanidylated gelatin may form a monomolecular layer or multi-molecular layer. Although the gelatin may be applied to the whole surface of the base, it is preferable to apply the gelatin in patterned form such as fretwork, stripes and polka dots.</p> |
