PURPOSE:To obtain an arrester which is provided with structure simpler than that of a conventional one and equivalent to the conventional one in its heat- radiating characteristics, by interposing heat-radiating fins, which are larger in their diameter than elements, between respective elements of zinc oxide and filling a hermetical container of porcelain with a gas which is large in its coefficient of thermal conductivity and high in its stability. CONSTITUTION:Heat-radiating fins 4 made of metal such as aluminium, good in its heat conductivity, are interposed to laminate elements 3 made of zinc oxide on a multistage state so that an element block 2 is composed and housed in a porcelain container 1 which is hermetical. The element block 2 is electrically connected with a line terminal 5 and an earth terminal 6 through caps 7. Further, a gas 9 of 0.1 Kcal/mh deg.C (room temperature) or more in its coefficient of heat conductivity, for example, a helium gas is sealed in a space part 8 which is inside the porcelain container 1 and exclusive of the element block 2. Heat-radiating characteristics of this arrester are hence improved, and resultingly a temperature of each zinc oxide element serving as an internal ingredient is lowered and absorptive ability of surge energy is also increased.
