PURPOSE:To efficiently clean out org. matter by specifying the sp.gr. of a microbe immobilizing carrier, and diffusing air from a diffuser at the bottom of a reaction vessel. CONSTITUTION:The reaction vessel 1 is separated into a suspension part 3 and a separation part 4. The microbe carrier 7 having 1.02-1.1 sp.gr. is charged in the suspension part 3, and the suspension part 3 is filled with waste water. Air is diffused from the diffuser 5, air bubbles 8 are distributed in the whole suspension part, hence the waste water is agitated, and the microbe carrier 7 is floated and suspended. Under such conditions, waste water is introduced into the suspension part 3, and purified. A part of the suspension enters the separation part 4, the microbe carrier 7 is settled and returned to the suspension part 3, and treated water is discharged as supernatant water.
