PURPOSE:To enhance the durability of a head at a low cost without bringing about the complication of a head structure due to the formation of a protective layer or the like, by generating one bubble by one drive potential pulse and making the current direction of at least one drive potential pulse reverse to that of other drive potential pulse. CONSTITUTION:With respect to the timewise change in the potentials of both of a common electrode and a selection electrode, for example, one bubble is generated by one drive potential pulse and the current direction of at least one drive potential pulse is made reverse to that of other drive potential pulse. That is, the potential V1 of the common electrode is always constant, whereas the potential of the selection electrode changes from V1 to V2 in a pulse like manner when it is desirable to allow a heat generator to generate heat (first drive potential pulse) and energy necessary for generating a bubble having required magnitude is applied to generate the bubble and, after the bubble disappears, this time, said potential changes to V3 in a pulse like manner (second drive potential pulse) to again generate the bubble but, since there is the relation of V3>V1>V2, the current flow directions of the first and second drive potential pulses become reverse to each other and, further, the first and second drive potential pulses are repeated. |
