PURPOSE:To prepare the title resin having excellent impact resistance and tinting capacity and having a high rate of impact strength retention when organic additives are added thereto, by the radical polymn. of a styrene monomer and a specified conjugated diene rubber. CONSTITUTION:An active lithium-contg. polymer (a), obtained by polymerizing one or more members of conjugated diene monomers in the presence of an organolithium compd. as a polymn. initiator, is reacted with a carbonyl compd. (b) or a compd. of the formula as shown (where R is H, 1-18C alkyl, aromatic group) to give a conjugated diene rubber B which is a toughening agent and has at least one hydroxyl group at the molecule end Mooney viscosity (at 100 deg.C) of 20-90, and a viscosity (at 25 deg.C) of 20-300cps in its 5wt.% soln. in styrene. 98-75pts.wt. mixture A of a styrene monomer and a monomer copolymerizable therewith and 2-25pts.wt. B were submitted to a radical polymn. by bulk (suspension) or soln. polymn. to give the title resin where the gel content (content of toluene-insoluble matter) is 10-40wt.%, the gel has a swelling index of 7-13 in toluene, and the resin portion has a wt. average MW of 100-400 thousand. |
