PURPOSE:To obtain a favorable sense of sharpness independently of the size of a focal length by changing the frequency characteristic of a luminance signal processing circuit according to the focal length. CONSTITUTION:A voltage controlled type filter (VCF) 14 is provided inside a video signal processing circuit 13. The VCF 14 acts as a high frequency band emphasizing circuit for performing the high frequency band compensation if a luminance signal component. Thus, the frequency characteristic of the luminance signal is improved (i.e., a high frequency band is emphasized), and the deterioration of the sharpness of an obtained picture image is compensated according as the image pickup is performed progressively toward the widest end by shortening the focal length by means of a zoom lens 11 or the like.
